• The differences between vacuum technologies available by Scales, a division of Quincy Compressor

Scales Medical can help you find out what works best for your application. Oil-less rotary vane technology is good for patient vacuum, as well as, waste anesthetic gas. If you need a dual system to evacuate the gas out of operating rooms and use it for patient use, oil-less rotary vane works. It is used for smaller applications so you would not typically use that type of system in a hospital. Lubricated rotary vane vacuum is good for dual use, vacuum for patients and waste anesthetic gas disposal. It is a good technology when you have combined usage. It is not a good technology if you want to use it for just waste gas because it has oil in it. So that would not be sole vacuum system for a WAGD application but it would be good for dual use. Non-contacting claw vacuum is also a good te...

  • Quincy 325 Compressor History Question

A big thanks to Quincy Compressor and Rotarycomptech on helping me figure out the actual ROC (record of change) and age of this compressor. The end of the crankshaft is stamped 13 which would make this compressor an ROC 13 which also is inline with the date on the tank of 1975. Some where someone along the way had to switched the inspection plate cover with an older one. ______________________________________________________________________ * * *Previous Description * * * I'm looking to see if anyone can tell me some history on the Quincy QR-25 #325 compressors. It looks to be all original, but the compressor is an ROC 10 witch should have had a bell tower style head unloader, however it has the new style diaphragm head unloader, and the tank is dated 1975. However, chances are almost as good that you're unaware of exactly all that entails. Luckily, Scales Industrial Technologies has the remedy. The company recently produced a video in which Scales' Service Technician Chris Lopez explains the process of reciprocating air compressor maintenance simply and concisely. "Regular compressor maintenance is critical for their reliability and longevity," he asserts; "anyone who thinks otherwise is looking for trouble." For obvious reasons, the first step, according to Lopez, is to lock-out power, rendering the compressor inoperable. Then th...

Non-contacting claw vacuum is also a good technology for dual use vacuum for patients and waste anesthetic gas disposal. The benefits of using the claw are lower maintenance than a lubricated rotary vane because there is no oil, only gear oil in the gearbox. It is very low maintenance, very efficient, but it also is loud so you have to be careful where you locate the claw vacuum system so if it is in an area where you are going to be able to hear it, it probably wouldn’t be a good technology for that particular application. Liquid Ring Vacuum technology has been around for a long time and they are very popular because they have almost no maintenance because they are lubricated with water. They are very good in high heat applications, they can be used in temperatures well in excessive 105 degrees, and they are very dependable and fairly quiet. The downfall to using a liquid ring vacuum system would be that it uses water and everyone is trying to save water these days. Facilities that use these have to pay for the water when they put the water into it and also to the sewage when it comes out. So we have to make sure that we are aware of that, but it is a good technology, it has been around for a long time and it is very dependable. Rotary screw vacuum systems are also a good option for large applications. They do utilize a good amount of oil so they require a lot of maintenance. But they are especially good when you need a large system. Systems like oil-less rotary vane, lubricated rotary vane, liquid ring and the claw are limited on size. But the rotary screws go up in size well above what we might need in medical applications. It is a great alternative to some of the other systems when they are not big enough. So whether you are a dental office, physician’s office, outpatient ambulatory surgery clinic, or a regional hospital, there are different technologies for your application. If you are not sure what technology to use, we can help you. Give us a call and we can match up what technology works best for your application. We can supply the equipment, do the instillations, and provide service. Whatever you need, we can do.

Yet the entire compressor is painted a tarnished gold bronze color which I've seen before, but I'm not sure what years or ROCs would have had this color. ______________________________________________________________________

That means these requirements do apply to your facility staff as well as third party testing and maintenance companies. If your staff is currently maintaining your medical gas systems you need to ask the questions; are they qualified, and do they have a documented procedure? If you have a third party service provider; do they have credentialed service technicians?

http://www.ScalesAir.com Chances are, if you work in an industry utilizing reciprocating air compressors, you already know the importance of proper periodic maintenance to keep them operating at peak efficiency. Then the oil — and oil filter, if so equipped — need to be changed in adherence with manufacturer's recommendations (or call Scales for information). Scales recommends this be done every 90 days under average use conditions. Next, drive belts need to be inspected for wear, and tightened as necessary. Tank drains, which remove built-up condensate from the receiver tank, must be inspected, then repaired or replaced if warranted, to prevent receiver corrosion due to moisture. In addition, if a compressor has unloader diaphrams, they too must be inspected and replaced as needed for optimal operation. Inspection of inlet air filters for dirt and/or rusting is next, with areas of high accumulations of dirt and dust requiring more frequent monitoring. "This is important for more than just greater compressor efficiency and longevity," notes Lopez. "Very often, air is taken from hot, dirty locations and pumped into the compressor inlet, so the filters need to be kept clean. If cleaner outside air is used for the compressor intake, make sure of proper pipe size to avoid inlet pressure drops." Mandatory safety valves must always be checked during routine maintenance for unrestricted operation. "Never bypass or disable a safety valve," Lopez stresses; "a valve which blows off may indicate compressor or control problems, so they must be thoroughly inspected to ensure they always function properly." Last, but by no means least, intercoolers, compressors, and the motor must be cleaned, which involves brushing for dirt or blowing it out with compressed air. Of course, it's important to fill out and update a maintenance chart on all work performed. Don't have a maintenance chart? No problem...call us. "Of course, the absolute safest and simplest way to ensure top-quality maintenance for your reciprocating air compressors is to let the pros do it." says Scales' Service Manager Todd Lung. "It's what we do better than anyone. Scales gives you the confidence of knowing your valuable equipment is being properly maintained. We even make it easy by offering several preventative maintenance agreements, one of which should be just right for your company. Why not call us today to find out which one is best for you...then take a couple of minutes to see Chris' video. He's really very good." Scales Industrial Technologies is an acknowledged leader in the design, sale, installation, and service of complete industrial compressed air systems, as well as numerous other cutting-edge industrial technologies.
